HOW I GOT STARTED
I began my practice as a doula for 22 births of friends and family members. Using my knowledge of dance, movement and instinctual sense of what positions were needed, all but one of these mamas delivered naturally and in under 12 hours of labor!
As a mother, I have experienced the intensity of labor and understand the particular needs of a mother in labor.
As the grandmother of a teenager and mom of two independent adult children; they are on their own! This allows me a lot more time to spend with my clients.

PREPARING AND PRACTICING FOR BIRTH
When you work with me as your doula, it’s my job to not only be there for you when you’re giving birth, but to also do everything I can to help you be prepared, relaxed, and confident for the birth. That is why I strongly encourage you to take a comprehensive birth preparation class and training.
The program that my clients have received the most benefit from is Yes to Birth! With Rachel Yellin. My clients who work with Yes To Birth! classes and audio relaxation program say that they felt way more confident going into labor and that their birth was a lot less painful and much more manageable than they thought it was going to be.
Visit https://rachelyellin.com/childbirth-classes/ for information about birth classes. To receive a $25 discount on Rachel's classes, enter the code “25bucksoff” on the class registration page. Be sure to list “Wendy Ellen Cochran” where the registration asks for the name of the person who referred you to the class. Rachel’s audio program is included in the price of her classes. If you can’t make any of the class dates in person or live on line, contact Rachel to discuss a private session or receiving video recordings of her classes.

As a birth doula for over 40 years, I support women naturally and empower them to create a conscious, manageable birth.
I’ve been honored to support women during midwife attended, hospital, home and water births. I like to meet with my moms frequently during the prenatal period to build a sense of familiarity and comfort in preparation for labor. I support mothers as they journey through labor in all birth outcomes. I equip mamas with the tools to use dance, yoga and qi gong movements to cope with labor, and these tools can help keep labor progressing well and smoothly.
Passionate about dance, I’ve spent most of my life dancing. Trained in Ballet, Modern, African, Caribbean and other world forms, I am passionate about women’s health, midwifery and supporting birth. I regularly use Belly Dance and other ancient world dance moves while helping Mamas in labor!
What Clients Are Saying
“Wendy Ellen was everything I needed as a doula. I highly recommend her!”
— Jennifer L. Cullison
“Even though I had two support people and my nervous husband, her help was enormous. She kept everything in sync, communicating with the medical staff to ensure that my birth plan was followed as much as possible. I labored for only 11 hours, and with Wendy's support I gave all natural birth to an 8lb 3oz boy! My husband and I will definitely be asking Wendy to help us with all of our future births.”
- Julie Kurenkova
“As a multicultural community educator and performer, Wendy Ellen has been of great service to this community over the years. Her assisting births were weaved within her time commitments to teaching and performing and raising a family of her own. I am excited to see her finally get her certification so she can expand her fine services to women in various communities.”
